The SMA Mission
The Smaller Manufacturers Association of Connecticut, known as the SMA, was incorporated in 1949 as an organization that serves to promote the cause of smaller manufacturing firms in all facets of their business organizations. In today's economy, the SMA provides resources to help Connecticut's smaller manufacturers thrive. Our membership includes over 130 firms representing more than 6,000 employees.
The SMA works on behalf of its members to:
- Promote the best interest of manufacturers in Connecticut
- Address problems common to all manufacturers
- Help manufacturers improve productivity
- Assist manufacturers in evaluating new markets for their products
- Stimulate cooperative action among manufacturers
- Provide access to resources aimed at assisting manufacturers
Membership in the SMA is open to all manufacturers within Connecticut who have 500 or fewer employees and who manufacture a product with an SIC between 2000-3999. Businesses within Connecticut that are supportive and beneficial to manufacturing companies may also join. The number of non-manufacturing companies; however, is limited to 40% of the total members.
Annual membership dues for manufacturers can range from $200 to $475 a year, depending on the number of employees. Non-manufacturer membership dues are $625. The Association's fiscal year is May 1st to April 30th.
